  5. Effects Of A Contoured Foot Orthosis And Flat Insole

Do contoured insoles reduce injury risk in defence boots?

This is another important study using Formthotics. Here, 3 conditions were trialled to investigate the effect of defence boot, sham (flat) insoles and contoured insoles (Formthotics) on plantar pressures and tibial acceleration, considered important in the aetiology of limb soft and bone stress injury. The contoured device induced higher medial and lateral midfoot pressures as expected, compared to the other conditions, and reduced peak heel pressure as well. The contoured device only decreased tibial acceleration, which may translate to fewer overuse injuries.
