Choosing the Right Formthotics

Density

Formthotics are available in a variety of densities, ranging from extra soft to hard, designed to meet different levels of support and cushioning requirements. The density you choose depends on the activity level, foot type, and specific medical conditions of your patient.

Shape and Fit

Formthotics are available in various shapes and lengths to accommodate different footwear and foot types. Understanding the needs of your patient will help determine which shape will offer the best support and comfort.

  • Full-Length Original Shape: Provides complete foot coverage and maximum support, ideal for athletic and everyday shoes.

  • 3/4 Length/Low Volume Profile: Offers arch support while allowing for more flexibility in tighter-fitting shoes, such as dress shoes or cleats.

  • Slim Fit/Low Profile: Select specific models that offer extra support for high arches or flat feet, ensuring proper foot alignment and reducing pain. These models are suitable for narrow shoes.

How to Heat and Fit Formthotics for a Precise Fit

Fitting and heating Formthotics correctly ensures the orthotics are customised to your patient's foot shape for maximum comfort and support. Follow these easy steps to achieve a perfect fit:

    1. Remove Existing Insoles: If possible, remove the existing insoles from the shoes to make space for Formthotics.

    2. Select the Right Size: Choose the correct size and model of Formthotics based on the shoe and foot size.

    3. Trim if Necessary: If trimming is needed, use the shoe’s insole as a guide. Be careful not to cut too short—Formthotics should fit snugly inside the shoe.

    4. Insert Formthotics: Slightly curve the Formthotics by squeezing the sides and gently slide them into the shoe. Press the heel firmly into place to ensure a secure fit.

    5. Heat the Formthotics: Place the shoes onto the Formthotics V20 Heating Machine and press start. The LED light will turn blue, and the heating cycle will take 3 minutes.

    6. Check Heating Readiness: A buzzer and flashing green LED will indicate when the Formthotics are ready for fitting. The heater will maintain the optimal temperature for an additional 3 minutes.

    7. Fitting the Formthotics: Remove the shoes from the heater. Have the patient put their shoes on and fasten them. As the Formthotics cool, they will set into the optimal position.

    8. Check the Position: Have the user stand with knees slightly bent, feet hip-width apart, and toes pointing forward. Knees should align over the second toe. Hold this position for 30 seconds.

    9. Walk to Finalise the Fit: Encourage the user to take a short walk to finalise the moulding process and provide feedback on comfort and fit.
